LEARNING FROM THE MASTERS

The studios aims at studying various approaches, ideologies, intensions, theories and visions of various architects, and decode their tangible principles of space making in organization, structure, material, scales, light, circulation, services, language of built form along with intangible aspects. The studio focuses on analyzing these principles and methods that have been applied by these architects, and arriving at a set of inferences for a synthesized architectural and spatial expression which addresses the regional, cultural, programmatic, climatic and material expressions. The Design Studio for Semester – 8 lays emphasis on understanding philosophy and works of such great masters who have enormous stature in modern Indian Architecture and influence as visionaries, theorists, and teachers.

Aim

The Studio VII aims to take up vigorous exercise in Campus design with educational environment. This involves multiple functions to be organized with a strong contextual base on a given site. The study of master architect’s works and his approach to design would facilitate assistance in intense creative engagement of conceptualizing, planning, organizing, and developing architectural design of the new campus.

Objective

The main objective of Studio-VII is to understand the tenets of campus planning and the contextual importance of the brief / programme. The design approach will be based on the interpretation, understanding and acceptance, of master architect’s ideology.

  • Understanding Campuses with multiple functions

  • Understanding regional and urban context to the purpose of intended educational environment

  • Response to site and surroundings

  • Relating functions to the user group and their academic requirement

  • Understanding organizational principles

  • Use of appropriate materials to enclose activity/space making

  • Understanding role of light in experiencing space, volume and surfaces

  • Technical solution appropriate to purpose, material used and overall expression

  • Creating a sustainable campus through material use and technology

  • All the above facets to be dealt through inspirations gained from master architect
