Guest Lecture by Neelkanth Chhaya Sir

An architect, academician and thinker, Chhaya sir completed his academics from CEPT University. After practicing in Kenya, for seven years, he moved his base from Africa to India. He also started his practice as Mandala Design in Vadodara. He has not only documented places of historical significance but also authored numerous critical papers. Moreover, he has collaborated with Hunnarshala to build cost effective crafts center in Kutch. He has been invited to be a part of several committees to be a speaker connected to Built Environment. He retired from CEPT University after approximately 25 years of teaching period in 2013 as Dean of the faculty. While he continues to mentor students of architecture and design from all over the globe, he also plays his role as an advisor to several institutions across the country. He is a valuable contributor to international and national design and pedagogy forums.
“A building should protect and shelter, modify the extreme effects of weather, and help create opportunities for convivial interaction as well as individual solitude. Make things as simple as possible, but not simpler!” These are the words that Chhaya Sir believes in.
